About Kathleen

Kathleen is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado with a master’s degree in Counseling & Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota (2014) and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Luther College (2011). Kathleen has 11 years of clinical experience providing individual and family counseling to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with symptoms of Post-traumatic Stress, Mood and Anxiety disorders, attachment disorders, and grief. Kathleen has also worked with children and teens experiencing relationship difficulties, emotional distress, suicidal ideation, and developmental or neurological difficulties. Kathleen practices from a Person-Centered approach where she values the therapeutic relationship with each client and getting to know their individual needs. She aims to create a safe, supportive, and empowering environment where clients can meet their identified treatment goals. Kathleen integrates a variety of evidence-based approaches to meet individual needs and enjoys bringing art and other creative methods into her work with clients to support them in getting the most out of their counseling sessions. Kathleen has completed the following trainings and is competent to provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Grief Component Therapy for Adolescents (TGCT-A), Attachment Centered Play Therapy, Children’s Bereavement Counseling, Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS Care), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Neurolinguistics Programming (NLP). Kathleen grew up in the Midwest and moved to Colorado after obtaining her master’s degree in 2014. She has lived and practiced in various parts of the state, including Denver, Ouray County, and Durango. Kathleen, her husband, and son call the Western Slope home and have settled in Montrose, where they enjoy spending family time exploring all that the area has to offer.
